Holidays, to me anyway, are not like they used to be. The world has changed so much since I was a child, oh so many years ago. I remember the family gatherings, we’d all go to my grandparents house for dinner, my 3 brothers, our mom and dad, my aunt and uncle and their 4 kids. We’d have a huge meal around my grandparents dining room table. In later years the gatherings moved to our house and we’d have so much fun squeezing all of us around our dining room table and a card table set up for the younger ones. Nowadays it’s hard to get what’s left of our family together as they are scattered everywhere across the U.S. I’ve a brother in PA. and 2 in FL. and I’m in VA. I’m sure it’s like that for alot of families. I miss my parents and grandparents, they are long passed, and I think of them all the time, especially around the holidays.
Oh the good old days! When we were young we’d hunt for plastic Easter eggs filled with candy in the yard. One year we had snow on Easter and we had to have our egg hunt in the house. Mom and Dad hid them everywhere in the living room. We were finding foil wrapped chocolate eggs for days afterwards. It was so much fun.
Now, in my senior years, I’m living with my middle daughter and her boyfriend and my granddaughter and 2 dogs in an apartment. My daughter has to work today and tomorrow so we won’t be doing any celebrating. But I’ll be doing alot of reflecting on past holidays.
Cherish your loved ones for you don’t know what tomorrow might bring.
Wishing all of my readers a very happy Easter!
